The Somali Federal Government has dispatched a high-level delegation to Khatumo State, led by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ahmed Abdirrahman Hassan. The delegation comprises members from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, the Independent Constitutional Review Commission, and parliamentary committees overseeing constitutional matters.
The visit aims to engage with local communities and stakeholders in Khatumo State as part of the ongoing constitutional review process. The delegation was warmly welcomed at Las Anod Airport by officials from the Khatumo State administration, including ministers, members of parliament, and the deputy mayor.
During the welcoming ceremony, Khatumo State’s Minister of Justice, Religious Affairs, and Constitutional Affairs, Abdi Hassan Hijar, expressed his delight in hosting the federal delegation, stating, “It is a great pleasure for us to welcome the esteemed delegation to the city of Las Anod.”
Deputy Minister Ahmed Abdirrahman Hassan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of public consultation in the constitutional review process. “The most crucial aspect is to engage with the public, as the constitution is the supreme law of the land, and the public must have a say in shaping it,” he said.
Hussein Osman Cilmi Sunni, a member of the Independent Constitutional Review Commission, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the delegation’s mission to gather input from various segments of Khatumo society. “We will hold meetings with the administration, civil society organizations, and the general public to ensure their voices are heard in the constitutional review process,” he stated.
The visit underscores the Somali Federal Government’s commitment to an inclusive and participatory approach in revising the nation’s constitution, ensuring that the voices and concerns of all stakeholders, including those in Khatumo State, are taken into account.
