In a grand celebration held on November’s Somali Teachers’ Day, the town of Guriceel in the Galgadud region came together to pay tribute to the vital role of educators in shaping society. Organized by the Guriceel Student Union (GSU), the event witnessed a diverse gathering of teachers, parents, students, community leaders, security forces, and officials from the administrations of Guriceel and Garijir districts.
The celebration commenced with an address by Khayir Faarax Barre, the chairperson of the GSU, who emphasized the significance of the occasion. “Tonight, we gather to honor and recognize the immense importance of teachers within our community,” he stated. “If it weren’t for their unwavering dedication, we would not have achieved the progress we have today. All teachers deserve our utmost gratitude for their selfless efforts in guiding and nurturing our youth.”
Students from Guriceel district took the opportunity to express their heartfelt appreciation for their teachers. One student eloquently stated, “My greetings and prayers to the teachers, who are like precious gold bestowed upon us by God. They have guided us from ignorance, imparting valuable knowledge and paving the way for a brighter future. Teachers are truly a treasure, and we are indebted to them.”
Another student recited a poetic tribute, highlighting the pivotal role of educators in shaping society: “Teachers are the light that guides us, the guardians of knowledge, and the architects of our future. They instill wisdom and virtue, ensuring that generations to come are equipped with the tools to succeed.”
Representatives from various educational institutions in Guriceel also addressed the gathering, underscoring the significance of Teachers’ Day. One official, speaking on behalf of the Soofi Academy in the Galmudug State, extended warm congratulations to all Somali teachers, both past and present, for their invaluable contributions to the nation’s educational journey.
