Organized by the Guriceel Student Union (GSU), the celebration brought together teachers, parents, students, community leaders, military officials, and representatives from the administrations of Guriceel and Garijir districts.
The event kicked off with an address by Khayr Faarax Barre, the Chairman of the GSU, who emphasized the significance of honoring teachers. “Tonight, we gather to recognize and uplift the vital role teachers play in our society,” he said. “If it weren’t for their tireless efforts, none of our achievements would be possible.”
Students took the stage to express their heartfelt gratitude to their teachers. One student recited a poem, describing teachers as “diamonds bestowed by God,” highlighting their selfless dedication in guiding students out of ignorance and into the path of knowledge.
Another student eloquently stated, “Teachers are the light that illuminates our path, imparting invaluable wisdom and shaping our futures. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.”
Representatives from local universities also joined in the celebration, extending their appreciation to teachers across Galmudug. “On behalf of the universities in Guriceel, I extend my warmest congratulations to all Somali teachers, both past and present, for their unwavering commitment to education,” said one representative.
The event underscored the pivotal role teachers play in nurturing generations of knowledgeable and responsible citizens. Speakers emphasized the need to provide teachers with adequate support, training, and resources to ensure the highest quality of education for Somali youth.
As the celebration drew to a close, military officials, district administrators, and representatives from the Galmudug Ministry of Education reiterated the immense respect and gratitude owed to Somali teachers. They called for continued efforts to uplift the teaching profession and foster an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
