Collaborative Planning for Somali Federal Government Ministries and Agencies

In a significant move towards coordinated national development, the Somali Federal Government recently hosted a collaborative planning session in Mogadishu. The event, organized by the Ministry of Planning, brought together officials from various ministries and agencies to align their strategic plans for the upcoming year.
Muuse Maxamed, the Director of the Planning Department, emphasized the importance of this gathering, stating, “Today, we are fortunate to come together and express our gratitude for this opportunity. The task at hand is not a one-day endeavor but rather a continuous effort throughout the entire year.”
The primary objective of the meeting was to establish a cohesive framework for the ministries’ and agencies’ work plans, ensuring alignment with the National Development Plan. Maxamed highlighted the need for collective efforts, saying, “We must work together to ensure our activities complement each other and reflect the government’s priorities.”
Mohamed Shire, the Director-General of the Ministry of Planning, provided further insights into the planning process. He explained that the ministry facilitates the development of government-wide strategic plans every year, aligning them with the five-year National Development Plan.
“As you are aware, we are currently in the process of developing the National Transformation Plan for the years 2024 and 2029,” Shire stated. “The plans you will discuss today will inform and contribute to this overarching national strategy.”
The collaborative planning session aimed to foster a shared understanding of the government’s priorities and ensure that the ministries’ and agencies’ plans were aligned with the broader national development goals. By working together, the Somali Federal Government aims to enhance coordination, optimize resource allocation, and accelerate progress towards sustainable development.
