Dhusamareb Airport Runway Construction Nears Completion

The construction of the long-awaited runway at Dhusamareb Airport in Galmudug’s capital is making significant strides, with the project nearing completion. The 3-kilometer runway, undertaken by the Olympics Nation construction company, has entered its final phase after extensive groundwork, including leveling, compacting, and preparing the base layers.
According to Maslax Mohamed Mahmoud, the lead engineer overseeing the airport’s construction, the crucial phase of laying the runway’s surface is now underway. The runway materials, imported from abroad, have been safely transported to the Olympic Construction Company’s headquarters in Dhusamareb via the port city of Bosaso.
Mahmoud provided a brief update to the media, highlighting the project’s progress. “The work is progressing smoothly, and we are nearing the completion of this crucial phase,” he stated. “Soon, we will commence the final stage of laying the runway surface at Ugaas Nur Airport, which will be capable of accommodating international flights once completed.”
The engineer proudly announced, “We have successfully prepared a 1-kilometer stretch for paving, and all necessary equipment and machinery are ready. The runway materials have arrived safely, and we are now poised to begin the paving process.”
Mahmoud outlined the upcoming steps, saying, “God willing, we will start by paving the initial 1-kilometer section, followed by preparing the next kilometer for paving. This will allow aircraft to land on the first kilometer while we work on the remaining sections. Our goal is to pave the entire 3-kilometer runway in phases.”
The Dhusamareb Airport project, initiated earlier this year, is part of President Ahmed Abdi Karie’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure in Galmudug. The completion of the runway is expected within the first few months of the new year, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development.
As the project progresses, the people of Galmudug eagerly anticipate the opening of their capital’s new international airport, which will facilitate air travel and boost economic opportunities in the region.
