In a move to empower the youth and promote inclusive governance, the Ministry of Interior for Regional States in Somalia’s Hirshabelle administration organized a dialogue session in Mahadday district, Middle Shabelle region. The event aimed to encourage youth participation in the formation of the local district council and facilitate discussions on youth-related issues.
The dialogue brought together young men and women from Mahadday, providing them with a platform to voice their aspirations and perspectives on having a representative local council in their district. The chairman of the Mahadday District Youth Association, addressing the gathering, expressed gratitude to the ministry for this initiative and affirmed the readiness of local youth to actively engage in the council formation process.
“This training program is indeed crucial as it enlightens us about the ongoing developments and the importance of district councils,” he stated, adding, “We wholeheartedly welcome this opportunity and extend our appreciation to the ministry for opening this door for us.”
Saalax Wiish, the district commissioner of Mahadday, commended the youth for their participation and insightful contributions. “I am delighted to see the district’s youth assembled here, which brings us immense joy,” he remarked, expressing his confidence in the youth’s preparedness to take part in the council elections and contribute their valuable perspectives.
Nuur Hassan Muuse, the Director-General of the Ministry of Interior for Regional States in Hirshabelle, elaborated on the objectives behind organizing this youth dialogue. “The primary purpose of this gathering is to involve the youth, both young men and women, in the decision-making process,” he explained. “We aim to enhance their leadership skills, instill a sense of ownership in policy formulation, and strengthen community collaboration.”
Muuse emphasized the pivotal role of youth in shaping the future, stating, “Youth are the power of the future. Participating in politics is not just an opportunity but a responsibility.” He underscored the ministry’s commitment to creating platforms where young voices can be heard and their ideas can flourish.
As Mahadday district prepares for the upcoming local council elections, this dialogue serves as a crucial step towards inclusive governance and empowering the youth to actively participate in shaping the development and decision-making processes within their communities.
