Somali authorities tasked with reviewing the nation’s constitution have embarked on a series of public consultations to gather input from youth and women across the country. The focus of these engagements is to solicit feedback and proposals for amending Articles 6-9 of the Federal Constitution.
In the city of Las Anod, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, along with the Constitutional Review Commissions, recently organized a consultative meeting with local youth and women’s groups. The objective was to encourage their active participation in the constitutional review process.
During the meeting, officials emphasized the importance of involving young people and women in shaping the country’s foundational legal document. They urged the attendees to seize this opportunity to voice their perspectives and contribute to the nation’s democratic development.
Ahmed Abdirrahman Hassan, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, called upon the youth and women to actively engage in the constitutional amendment process. He stressed that this initiative provides a unique platform for the voices of Somali youth and women from the Khatumo region to be heard and considered.
The constitutional review authorities have been conducting similar consultations across various regions of Somalia, seeking to ensure inclusive representation and broad-based participation in this crucial endeavor.
By involving diverse segments of society, particularly youth and women, the Somali government aims to foster a sense of ownership and promote a democratic culture where all citizens have a stake in shaping the nation’s legal framework.
