Galmudug Officials Rally for Peace and Justice in Xarardheere and Caabudwaaq

In an ongoing effort to promote peace and reconciliation, officials from Somalia’s Galmudug state have been hosting a series of community meetings in the districts of Xarardheere and Caabudwaaq. The peace conference, attended by the Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation, Omar Abdi Mohamed, and the Mayor of Xarardheere, has been a platform for impassioned calls for unity and an end to the region’s protracted conflicts.
The conference’s central theme has been the urgent need for the community to embrace peace and work towards sustainable solutions to the long-standing disputes that have plagued the areas of Caabudwaaq and Xarardheere. Participants have emphasized the importance of raising awareness among the populace about the dire consequences of continued violence and the pressing need for peaceful coexistence.
In his remarks, Omar Abdi Mohamed, the Director-General of the Federal Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation, underscored the necessity of establishing a just and equitable peace rooted in the principles of Islamic law. He stressed that true peace can only be achieved through the fair administration of justice and the impartial resolution of conflicts in accordance with Sharia.
“Islam clearly prohibits the shedding of Muslim blood,” Mohamed stated. “Our aim is to create a peaceful society where development and progress can thrive, one that can compete with other regions. Every individual must make the difficult decision to embrace peace and reject violence.”
The conference has served as a platform for various community stakeholders, including traditional elders, women’s groups, youth organizations, and local administrators, to engage in constructive dialogue and share their perspectives on achieving lasting peace. The Mayor of Xarardheere expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Interior and Reconciliation for their efforts in facilitating these crucial discussions and acknowledged the pivotal role played by traditional elders in welcoming and supporting the peace initiative.
A key aspect of the conference has been the emphasis on grassroots mobilization and community-driven efforts. Participants have been urged to spread the message of peace and awareness throughout their respective communities, with each individual tasked with reaching out to at least five others, creating a ripple effect that could transform the region’s social fabric.
As the conference enters its second day, the organizers have reiterated their commitment to sustaining these efforts and ensuring that the momentum for peace and reconciliation continues to build. The path forward will require a collective effort, with all segments of society working hand in hand to address the underlying causes of conflict and foster an environment conducive to development and prosperity.
While acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead, the officials and community leaders have expressed cautious optimism, recognizing that the pursuit of peace is a long-term endeavor that demands unwavering dedication and perseverance. As the conference draws to a close, its impact will be measured by the tangible steps taken towards healing the rifts that have divided these communities for far too long.
