Hirshabelle Ministry of Agriculture Empowers Farmers with Irrigation Pumps

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in Hirshabelle State has taken a significant step towards enhancing agricultural productivity by distributing irrigation pumps to farmers in Banaan village, Jowhar District. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader development plans aimed at boosting crop yields and ensuring food security in the region.
During the handover ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Bashir Qasim Daqarre, emphasized the State’s commitment to supporting farmers and implementing strategies that promote sustainable agricultural practices. He stated that over the past few years, the Ministry has been actively working on development projects to improve crop production while providing assistance to farmers.
Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali, the chairman of Banaan village, expressed his gratitude to the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) for their valuable contribution. He highlighted the significance of the donated irrigation pumps, which will enable farmers to efficiently water their crops and increase yields.
The distribution of these irrigation pumps is a crucial step towards achieving the vision of the President of Hirshabelle State, who prioritizes food self-sufficiency and supporting agricultural communities. The initiative targets six villages, including Xanshoole, Banaaney, Gedo Barkaan, Gumbe, Gaafaay, and Gaash, where various interventions, such as canal construction, well-digging, and the provision of agricultural inputs, have been undertaken.
By empowering farmers with modern irrigation systems, the Hirshabelle State government aims to boost crop production, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of rural communities. This effort aligns with the broader goal of achieving sustainable development and promoting self-reliance in the region.
