New Administration Takes Over in Mahaday, Promises Change and Accountability

MAHADAY, MIDDLE SHABELLE – In a ceremonial transition, the newly elected administration in Mahaday district officially took over from the outgoing administration, marking a pivotal moment for the region. The event was attended by officials from the Hirshabelle State and representatives of local civil society organizations.
Outgoing Mayor Saalax Wiishka, who handed over power, reflected on the achievements of his tenure, including the establishment of a functioning hospital with 234 employees from various organizations serving the district. He also highlighted the numerous wells dug during his administration.
Ahmed Hussein Afrax, the newly elected Mayor of Mahaday, expressed his commitment to bringing tangible change and progress to the district. “I have assumed a challenging responsibility, but with God’s help, I will strive to succeed,” he stated. “First and foremost, we will ensure justice and equality for all residents of Mahaday. The people deserve fairness, and we will work tirelessly to provide the essential services and rights they are entitled to, including security and peace, God willing.”
Guddoomiye Ku Xigeenka, the Deputy Governor for Social Affairs of the Middle Shabelle region, congratulated the new administration and urged them to fulfill their duties diligently, working closely with the community elders, women, and the district council.
Saadaq Mukhtaar Cabdulle, a member of the Hirshabelle Parliament, emphasized the importance of adhering to the established rules and regulations, expressing his willingness to collaborate with the new administration for the betterment of the district.
Hassan Dhicisow Hassan, the Chief of Police for the Hirshabelle State, acknowledged that the new Mahaday administration was elected through a democratic process and called on them to serve the community with fairness, as they had been entrusted by the people.
Abdi Daahir Guure Koore, the Minister of Interior and Local Governments for the Hirshabelle State, delivered a comprehensive speech, highlighting the need for cooperation, self-reliance, and inclusivity in Mahaday. He stressed the importance of addressing the needs of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and ensuring their integration into the community. Koore also emphasized the development of Mahaday town, situated 90 kilometers from the capital Jowhar, making it accessible and livable.
In a symbolic gesture, the outgoing Chief of Police in Mahaday handed over responsibilities to the newly appointed Chief of Police, marking the complete transition of power.
The event signifies a new chapter for Mahaday, with the incoming administration pledging to prioritize justice, service delivery, and the well-being of all residents, fostering hope for positive change in the district.
