Somali Elders Call for Unity and Justice in Jubbaland

In a powerful call for unity and justice, Somali elders from the Jubbaland region have urged local forces to abandon support for the oppressive rule of Ahmed Madobe and align with the federal government. Their impassioned plea comes amidst growing tensions and concerns over Madobe’s authoritarian grip on power, which they claim has perpetuated injustice and marginalization for far too long.
The elders, representing the voices of the people of Jubbaland, condemned Madobe’s 14-year reign as a period of lawlessness and oppression. “Ahmed Madobe has held power through force for 14 years,” one elder stated. “The people have grown weary of his unjust rule, and it is time for change.”
Highlighting the dire need for a new system that upholds justice and equality, the elders called upon the Jubbaland forces, including those from the Digil, Mirifle, Darod, and Hawiye clans, to defect from Madobe’s camp and rally behind the federal government. “You must surrender and support the legitimate authority,” they urged, emphasizing that continued allegiance to an oppressive ruler is an act of ignorance.
The elders’ appeal comes at a critical juncture, as the federal government has made strides to assert its authority in the region and restore stability. They warned that resisting the government’s efforts would only perpetuate the suffering and injustice that has plagued Jubbaland for far too long.
“If the federal government, which Allah has brought to you, extends its hand, the forces must surrender in Jubbaland,” one elder declared, underscoring the importance of seizing this opportunity for positive change.
Drawing upon historical context, the elders acknowledged that past attempts to address the region’s challenges through dialogue and negotiation had failed, leading to the current crisis. They emphasized the pressing need for a comprehensive overhaul of the system, including a review of the constitution and the establishment of a just and equitable framework.
“We call upon the people of Jubbaland to work towards building a better system, one that upholds justice and equality, with the guidance of Allah,” another elder stated, highlighting the importance of collective action and divine guidance in achieving lasting peace and prosperity.
The elders’ powerful message also extended to the international community, urging them to take note of the dire situation in Jubbaland and support efforts to resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy. They condemned any attempts to escalate violence or prolong Madobe’s oppressive rule, stressing the need for a peaceful transition towards a more just and inclusive system of governance.
As the crisis in Jubbaland continues to unfold, the elders’ call for unity and justice resonates as a beacon of hope for a region long plagued by conflict and instability. Their words serve as a rallying cry for the people of Jubbaland to seize this opportunity for positive change and work towards a future where justice, equality, and the rule of law prevail.
