The Somali Minister of Health and Community Care, Dr. Ali Haji Adan, laid the foundation stone for the expansion and renovation of the National Laboratory facilities. Once completed, the project will significantly enhance the country’s healthcare system and disease diagnostic capabilities.
Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Abdille, the Director of the National Laboratory, highlighted the importance of upgrading the national laboratory’s infrastructure, equipment, and human resources. He stated that the expansion will enable the laboratory to conduct advanced tests that were previously sent abroad, saving time and resources.
“It is a great honor for me to welcome you to the groundbreaking ceremony of the new National Laboratory building,” Dr. Abdille said. “This is not just another construction project; it will transform the country’s healthcare system as a whole.”
The Director General of the Ministry of Health and Community Care, Dr. Guled Abdijaliil, also emphasized the project’s significance, saying, “We are delighted to witness another milestone in the development of our healthcare infrastructure, which will greatly enhance the country’s medical capabilities.”
Minister Ali Haji Adan affirmed the government’s commitment to the project, stating, “We are excited to break ground on the expansion and renovation of the National Laboratory, both in terms of infrastructure and equipment. We hope that, God willing, tests that were previously sent abroad can now be conducted within the country once the project is completed.”
The minister added that the expanded laboratory would enable the diagnosis of diseases that were previously untreatable in Somalia, such as certain cancers and rare conditions. He pledged the government’s dedication to allocating resources for equipping and staffing the laboratory to ensure its success.
The National Laboratory plays a crucial role in disease surveillance, diagnosis, and prevention efforts in Somalia. This expansion project is a significant step towards improving the country’s healthcare system and enhancing its capacity to safeguard public health.
