Somali Military Chief’s Farewell Address: Progress, Challenges, and Gratitude

In a heartfelt farewell address, the outgoing Chief of the Somali National Army, General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, acknowledged the progress made and challenges faced during his tenure while expressing gratitude to allies, troops, and the government.
Highlighting the collaborative efforts with international partners, General Rageh thanked the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kenya, and Uganda for their invaluable training and support in enhancing the capabilities of the Somali armed forces. He emphasized that true strength lies not in advanced weapons or vehicles but in the dedication and resilience of the troops.
Addressing a pressing security concern, the General called for a campaign to safeguard the rights of the Somali community and address the detrimental impact of the Al-Shabaab militant group. He urged the Prime Minister to take decisive action against the group’s activities, which have disrupted businesses and posed threats to civilians.
General Rageh outlined ongoing efforts to professionalize the military, including rigorous training programs for recruits, promotions for deserving officers, and strict vetting processes. He stressed the importance of maintaining high standards and eliminating potential infiltrators to protect the nation’s security.
While acknowledging the sacrifices made by fallen and wounded soldiers, the General expressed his deep appreciation for their unwavering commitment to the country. He praised the officers who worked alongside him during his tenure and urged them to extend the same dedication and support to his successor, General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh.
In a poignant moment, General Rageh emphasized that no individual could claim sole credit for the achievements, as the work accomplished was a collective duty. He expressed his gratitude to the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia for entrusting him with this responsibility and thanked all those who contributed to the progress made.
As he concluded his address, the outgoing Chief wished peace and blessings upon the Somali people and reiterated his appreciation for the support received from allies and the resilience of the Somali troops in the face of adversity.
