Somali National Army troops and local forces repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab militants in the Masagawaa area of Galgadud region. The military forces pre-empted the militant assault and engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with the Al-Shabaab fighters attempting to infiltrate the area from the outskirts of Bahdo and eastern parts of Galgadud.
Colonel Mohamed Adan, a senior commander of the Somali National Army based in the region, confirmed the military’s confrontation with the militants, stating that casualties were inflicted upon the Al-Shabaab group during the clashes. However, he did not provide specific details on the extent of the losses.
The Somali military has been conducting frequent operations against Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions, inflicting significant losses on the militant group. The recent confrontation serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by the Somali forces to neutralize the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and restore stability in the region.
