Somali National Disaster Management Agency Delivers Lifeline Aid to Drought-Affected Regions

In a concerted effort to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing drought crisis, the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) has taken decisive action by dispatching three aid flights carrying essential food supplies to the drought-ravaged towns of Xudur, Doolow, and Baardheer in the Gedo and Bakool regions.
The aid flights, carrying life-saving provisions, are part of SODMA’s strategic response to address the dire needs of vulnerable communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in these areas, who have been severely impacted by the drought and the subsequent risk of famine.
According to SODMA’s Director of Emergency Operations, Sahra Ali Yusuf, who oversaw the departure of the aid flights from Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, this humanitarian intervention is being carried out in accordance with the directives of the country’s top leadership and the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency.
In addition to the aid flights, SODMA has been actively engaged in delivering aid convoys to various regions, including Xudur, Baydhabo, Diinsoor, Baardheer, and Doolow, where the agency has already distributed aid to hundreds of affected families and IDPs.
The aid efforts are being facilitated by the support of the Chinese government, which has provided crucial assistance to address the dire situation faced by drought-affected Somali communities and displaced populations.
As the drought crisis persists, SODMA remains committed to reaching out to affected areas across the country in the coming days, ensuring that vital aid reaches those in urgent need.
