The Chairman of Somalia’s National Oil Authority, Engineer Abdulqadir Maxamuud Aadan, accompanied by staff from the authority, local officials from the Hobyo district administration, businesspeople from a trading company, and security forces, conducted an inspection tour of several coastal areas in Hobyo district. These sites are being considered for potential oil exploration and drilling activities.
During the tour, the National Oil Authority representatives shared information about the progress of the oil exploration project and future plans with local officials and the community members present in the coastal areas visited. They also raised awareness about the potential benefits and job opportunities that could arise if the oil exploration efforts prove successful.
Hobyo District Commissioner Osman Ahmed Abdullahi and his deputy, Mukhtar Abdullahi Mohamed, welcomed the inspection tour and expressed their appreciation for the initiative. They highlighted the importance of the oil exploration project for the district and the potential economic opportunities it could bring.
“You have witnessed the security and cooperation we have provided during your stay,” said Commissioner Osman. “Our city is secure, and anyone can come here to contribute to the development and prosperity of Somalia. Hobyo is a welcoming city that can play a role in the progress of our nation, as you have seen firsthand today through this inspection tour.”
The National Oil Authority team visited sites numbered 150, 3, and 129, among others, during their tour. Chairman Eng. Abdulqadir Mohamed Aadan summarized the purpose of their inspection and the significance of the coastal areas they visited for oil exploration.
“The objective of my visit was to raise awareness among the local community and keep them informed about the progress of the federal government’s efforts, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his team, to overcome the challenges and ensure that future generations benefit from our natural resources,” the Chairman stated.
He added, “As Minister of Petroleum Dr. Abdirrizak Ahmed mentioned, these are the areas identified as potential oil basins, estimated to contain up to 50 billion barrels of oil. We are raising our hands to God, seeking His guidance and facilitation for this long journey, which has many obstacles, but the federal government and the President have taken on these challenges so that we can extract these resources for the benefit of our people. We have made a commitment to God and to you.”
The areas visited during the inspection tour are believed to be part of a larger oil basin stretching from block 100 to blocks 129, 130, and 131, covering an extensive area with promising oil prospects.
In recent days, the delegation led by the Chairman of the National Oil Authority has been visiting various locations in the Mudug region, engaging with local communities and officials as part of Somalia’s efforts to explore and develop its energy resources.
