Key points of discussion included enhancing bilateral parliamentary relations, sharing expertise and best practices, facilitating exchange programs for MPs, and exploring opportunities for the UK Parliament to provide capacity-building training to Somali parliamentarians.
The visit underscores Somalia’s commitment to deepening its ties with the UK and leveraging international partnerships to bolster its democratic institutions and governance structures.
In another development, Somalia’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Ambassador Khadijo Mohamed Almaksoum, signed an agreement with the Global Center for Climate Mobility. This initiative aims to empower local communities in Somalia to better adapt to climate change impacts and ensure sustainable climate action strategies nationwide.
Meanwhile, senior officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Defense and the Somali National Army participated in a training program in Mogadishu, focusing on operational readiness, force management, civil-military coordination, and human rights protection. The training was facilitated by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of Security Cooperation and drew from the expertise of the U.S. Army War College.
