In a major counter-terrorism operation, Somali security forces based in the city of Marka, Lower Shabelle region, successfully foiled a bomb plot and apprehended militants involved in the operation. The forces conducted a successful raid that disrupted the militants’ plans to plant explosives along vital roads leading into the city.
During the operation, the security forces managed to capture militants who were guarding the area and obtained vital information about the bomb plot. The commander of the Marka district security forces and deputy security chief, Mohamed Sheikh Hassan, provided details about the operation to the national media.
According to Hassan, the operation took place in the areas of Shalambood and Ceelb Jaalle, near the location of Xal Cashiya. He stated that they had received intelligence that the militants had planted mines on the road the previous night, prompting the security forces to take immediate action.
Hassan explained, “Last night, they had planted mines on the road. We took preemptive measures, as this is an ongoing battle. Sometimes we encounter mines being brought into the city, and at other times, we have to pursue the militants themselves.”
During the operation, the security forces engaged with the militants, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Hassan reported that one militant was killed, while two others, including an engineer responsible for handling the explosives, were captured.
The successful operation has been hailed as a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to maintain security and counter-terrorism in the region. The Somali security forces remain vigilant and committed to protecting the lives of civilians and ensuring the safety of major transportation routes.
