Somali University Celebrates Graduation of 1,000 Students Across Various Disciplines

In a momentous occasion, government ministers, parliamentarians, and other officials from the Federal Government of Somalia joined a celebration honoring the graduation of nearly 1,000 students from the Somali International University (SIU) in Mogadishu. The graduates, hailing from various academic disciplines, marked a significant milestone in their educational journeys.
The event commenced with an inspiring address from Mohamed Ali Ismail, the Chancellor of SIU, who congratulated the graduating students and urged them to seize every opportunity to further their knowledge and contribute to the progress of Somali society. “This is your first step on the path of life after leaving student life behind,” he remarked, expressing his hopes for their future success.
Abdirrahman Sheikh Yusuf Omar Al-Adala, the Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism for the Federal Government of Somalia, echoed similar sentiments, encouraging the graduates to actively participate in nation-building and utilize their acquired knowledge to shape Somalia’s future. “This graduation is a success for the Somali people as a whole,” he affirmed.
The Deputy Minister’s words resonated with the broader implications of education, as he stated, “These nearly 1,000 graduates joining the ranks of those shaping the future of the Somali people are a beacon of hope for our nation’s future.”
Other dignitaries, including the Minister of Youth, Deputy Minister of Health, and Minister of State for Ports and Marine Resources, also graced the occasion, commending the students’ achievements and urging them to use their knowledge to benefit the Somali people.
Notably, Abdulqadir Muhiyaddin, a visually impaired graduate, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to SIU’s administration and shared an inspiring message with fellow individuals with disabilities. He encouraged them to embrace education and utilize their skills to contribute to society.
The ceremony also recognized the exceptional performance of eight students, who received special honors and awards for their outstanding academic achievements. The event served as a testament to SIU’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and nurturing future leaders.
As the graduates embark on their respective paths, the Federal Government of Somalia and the wider Somali community celebrate their accomplishments, recognizing the pivotal role education plays in shaping a prosperous and inclusive nation.
