Somali Women’s Empowerment: A Call to Action from the Minister of Women

In a powerful address, Somalia’s Minister of Women has issued a resounding call to action for Somali women to actively participate in the nation-building process. Speaking before members of parliament, the Minister emphasized the pivotal role women have played throughout history and the government’s commitment to supporting their empowerment.
“The Minister of Women is responsible for Somali women from the coastal regions to the inland areas,” he declared. “We want the government to work for the home, which has always been the domain of mothers. Today, we gather here to address this matter.”
Joined by the Chairperson of the Women’s Committee and the Secretary of the Human Rights Committee, the Minister acknowledged the resilience of Somali women, stating, “Somali women, you are the backbone of the Somali nation. The home cannot be sold or abandoned. We do not want it to be neglected. Nothing has been sold, nor have the ears of the Somali people been filled with lies. The home remains the home, and its name remains as the Chairperson and Secretary have stated.”
The Minister’s speech underscored the government’s commitment to empowering women and ensuring their active participation in rebuilding the nation. He praised the women working in the Ministry of Women and Human Rights, saying, “Somali women, you are commendable. We want you to take part in the reconstruction of the country, as you did before. Today, everything you need to feel empowered is available. We, the representatives of women, stand with you. If anyone tries to oppress you, we will stand by your side.”
Addressing potential concerns, the Minister reassured the audience, “We have succeeded in overcoming the challenges facing the government. We are grateful for your patience and understanding.”
The Minister’s powerful words have resonated across Somalia, igniting a renewed sense of determination among women to claim their rightful place in shaping the nation’s future. His speech serves as a rallying cry for gender equality and women’s empowerment, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Somali women throughout history and the government’s commitment to supporting their aspirations.
As Somalia continues its journey towards progress and development, the Minister’s call to action underscores the vital role women must play in nation-building efforts. With the government’s backing and the unwavering spirit of Somali women, the path towards a more inclusive and equitable society is paved.
