Somalia’s Federal Government Intensifies Efforts Against Terrorism and Promotes Peace

The Federal Government of Somalia is intensifying its efforts to combat terrorism and promote peace and development in the country. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, comprehensive reports were presented on the national assessment of the fight against extremists and terrorism.
The Prime Minister highlighted the security situation, highlighting the successes of the Somali security forces in the fight against terrorist groups. He also discussed the ongoing national transformation process in the country during this critical period.
In the capital Mogadishu, the Mogadishu Book Fair was officially opened by the Deputy Prime Minister, Engineer Salah Ahmed Jama. The event brought together writers, students, and literary enthusiasts from across the country, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting literacy and education.
In a significant development, Somalia and Japan signed a historic agreement, with Somalia’s Finance Minister Bihi Iman Cigge and the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya formalizing a grant of over $10 million to support Somalia’s debt relief efforts under the Paris Club initiative.
The Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, provided updates on his visits to several countries contributing troops to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). He discussed plans for a new mission expected to commence in 2024, involving consultations with Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya on their potential contributions.
These efforts demonstrate the Somali government’s multifaceted approach to combating terrorism, promoting peace and security, and fostering economic and social development in the country.
