Strengthening Somalia’s Police Force: A New Era Under Sareye Guuto Asad Cismaan Cabdulaahi

Somalia’s police force has embarked on a new era of transformation and reform under the leadership of the newly appointed Police Chief, Sareye Guuto Asad Cismaan Cabdulaahi. Since his appointment in September, the Chief has been actively working to strengthen the police force’s capabilities, enhance public trust, and foster a secure environment for the Somali people.
In his inaugural speech, Sareye Guuto Asad Cismaan Cabdulaahi emphasized the vital role of policing in serving society and pledged to uphold the dignity and honor of the Somali nation. He stated, “I have accepted this responsibility, believing that policing is the most valuable service to the community. I stand committed to maintaining peace, protecting human rights, and preserving the honor and dignity of the Somali people.”
The Chief has undertaken a series of initiatives and engagements to fulfill his promises. He has held meetings with international partners, including representatives from the United States, European Union, and neighboring countries, to strengthen cooperation in countering terrorism and enhancing security. Additionally, he has engaged with religious leaders, urging them to contribute to peacebuilding efforts, social cohesion, and countering extremist ideologies.
Sareye Guuto Asad Cismaan Cabdulaahi has also prioritized the modernization and capacity-building of the Somali police force. He has conducted inspections of various police facilities, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Aden Adde International Airport Police Station, and the General Kaahiye Police Academy. These visits aimed to assess the operational readiness and identify areas for improvement.
Furthermore, the Chief has focused on boosting the morale and professionalism of the police force. He has presided over weekly meetings with senior police officials, emphasizing the importance of combating crime, protecting public property, and maintaining law and order. Sareye Guuto Asad Cismaan Cabdulaahi has also taken steps to enhance the welfare of police officers, such as reopening the Police Hospital’s emergency and trauma center in Mogadishu.
