Somalia has taken a significant stride towards fostering agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship with the unveiling of the Siyaad Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development. This state-of-the-art facility, established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, aims to nurture cutting-edge ideas and solutions for the country’s farming sector.
The inauguration event witnessed the participation of various officials and representatives from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), who collectively underscored the center’s pivotal role in advancing Somalia’s agricultural landscape.
Mustafe Cismaan Waayeel, the IFAD coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, welcomed the launch of this innovative hub, describing it as a game-changer for the nation and its agricultural entrepreneurs. He emphasized the center’s potential to catalyze transformative solutions addressing climate change challenges and boosting Somalia’s agricultural productivity.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdi Khair reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting and encouraging every individual with innovative ideas in the agricultural sector. He stressed that the ministry has intensified efforts to empower Somali citizens engaged in agricultural entrepreneurship, ensuring they have access to the necessary knowledge, resources, and market opportunities.
“We are delighted to open this center today, which houses numerous experts and talented youth from around the world specializing in agricultural innovation,” Minister Khair stated. “We invite Somali youth to join this center and enhance their skills, establish global connections, and benefit from the latest technologies and digitalization in modern agriculture.”
The Siyaad Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development represents a collaborative effort between the Federal Government of Somalia and international organizations supporting agricultural development and sustainable food production. By fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and the adoption of modern farming practices, the center aims to tackle food insecurity, create employment opportunities, and drive economic growth in Somalia.
