Unveiling Somalia’s First Public CT Scan at Banadir Maternity Hospital

Somalia has taken a significant step towards enhancing its public healthcare system with the inauguration of the country’s first public CT scan facility at Banadir Maternity Hospital in Mogadishu. The state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment was unveiled by the Minister of Health and Community Care, Dr. Ali Haji Aden, marking a historic moment for the nation’s healthcare sector.
The newly installed CT scan will primarily serve the maternal healthcare needs of the community, allowing for accurate diagnosis and timely treatment of various conditions, including head injuries, fractures, and internal complications. This advanced technology will provide detailed imaging, enabling healthcare professionals to better assess and manage medical emergencies.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Fartun Sharif Mohamed, the Director-General of Banadir Maternity Hospital, expressed her pride in being the first public hospital to acquire such cutting-edge technology. She emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “Today is a historic day for Banadir Hospital as we introduce the CT scan, one of the most essential diagnostic tools of our time, widely used worldwide.”
Senator Samsam Daahir Mahmoud commended the hospital’s management for acquiring the CT scan, highlighting its crucial role in providing life-saving care to Somali patients. She stressed the importance of this facility, particularly for expectant mothers in need of urgent medical attention from remote areas of the country.
Minister of Health and Community Care, Dr. Ali Haji Aden, highlighted that the CT scan installation at Banadir Maternity Hospital is part of a broader initiative to equip eight public hospitals across the country with advanced medical equipment. He emphasized the government’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare system and improving access to quality services for all Somalis.
