Unveiling Somalia’s Transformative National Plan for Progress

Somalia is embarking on an ambitious journey to shape its future through a comprehensive National Transformation Plan. Over the past two months, from mid-October to November, the nation has witnessed an extensive consultative process involving government ministries, private sector, civil society, and international partners.
The National Transformation Plan is a visionary roadmap designed to propel Somalia’s development and economic growth for the next five years, from 2023 to 2028. This strategic plan is the culmination of a year-long effort, involving extensive deliberations, workshops, and invaluable contributions from national and international experts.
One of the key highlights of this initiative was the participation of a 25-member team of experts from Malaysia, who have been actively engaged in the process for the past month and will continue their involvement in the coming weeks. Their expertise has been instrumental in shaping a modern and forward-looking plan that takes into account global trends in economic development and nation-building.
The National Transformation Plan aims to create up to 60,000 new jobs within the next five years, with a phased approach targeting 20,000 jobs annually. This ambitious goal reflects Somalia’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and creating employment opportunities for its citizens.
As the plan nears completion in December, it promises to deliver transformative projects that will significantly contribute to Somalia’s statehood and economic prosperity. The collaborative efforts of government ministries, subject matter experts, international partners, and civil society organizations have been instrumental in crafting this visionary blueprint.
The Prime Minister, along with cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, and ministerial advisors, have played a pivotal role in guiding and supporting this endeavor. Additionally, the dedicated team from the Ministry of Planning, led by Director General Shire, and the Office of the Prime Minister, headed by Abdirisaq, have worked tirelessly alongside national and international experts to bring this plan to fruition.
Special recognition goes to the coordination team spearheaded by Abdi Osman, the National Transformation Plan Coordinator, and his colleagues who have diligently facilitated the intricate consultative process.
This transformative plan represents a historic opportunity for Somalia to chart its course towards sustainable development and progress. The collective efforts of all stakeholders have laid the foundation for a prosperous future, and their unwavering dedication deserves the highest commendation.
